Cardinals win championship; all-star team has been  picked

The Powell Cardinals beat the Lovell Diamondbacks 8-0 to claim the Powell Little League Major Division championship Thursday night.

Cory Heny hit a solo home run and pitched two perfect innings of relief to lead the Powell Pioneers to a 4-2 victory over the Cody Cubs Wednesday night.

The graduation requirements of a Northwest College student will bring a variety of outdoor opportunities for Powell youths this summer.

Kym Casner, 24, is an outdoor education major who plans on graduating in December. She is working this summer on her practicum, a required project that will gain her real-world experience in her field.

The importance of team play – and the apparent lack of it in regards to the Powell Pioneers – was brought up in a letter to the editor that ran in the June 4 issue of the Powell Tribune.

It was supposed to be a dramatic clash between two cross-county rivals. Instead, it quickly became a one-sided laugher that wasn’t even as close as the lopsided score.

Current physical education teacher and former Panthers freshman boys basketball coach Chase Kistler has been chosen to replace Mike Heny as head coach of Powell’s varsity team. It will be Kistler’s first time as a varsity head coach.
