Panthers go back-to-back-to-back as state champions

 

When a team wins a state title, it’s only natural that those who were seen holding the ball and scoring touchdowns will be the ones that garner the most attention.

On Friday afternoon, Powell High School senior Zach Thompson stood amongst his Powell Panther teammates as they celebrated their third consecutive state football title.

At times it looked grim, painful even, but when all was said and done, it looked very familiar.

The Powell Panthers won their third-straight Class 3A football title Friday night by beating the Douglas Bearcats 19-13 in overtime. After the game players, coaches, fans and parents joined on the field to exchange hugs and take photos as a confetti-like snow fell on their heads.

The Northwest Trappers men’s basketball team fell to .500 after dropping consecutive games in Cheyenne over the weekend.

Two weekends ago I was one of the fortunate few who witnessed the PHS volleyball team battle every step of the way to a state title in Casper.

For the third time in as many years, the Powell Panthers’ season has been turned up to (week) 11.

The Northwest College wrestling team proved itself against some stiff competition from four states in Saturday’s NWC Open in the Cabre Gym.
