On this day, however, Cooley’s hands are being employed for a different purpose. Starting with a lump of clay, Cooley’s hands work and shape the material as it spins around on a potter’s wheel. A subtle application of pressure here, a touch there, and suddenly a work of art springs to life.

Park County rival Cody placed third with 117.5 points.

Powell High School senior Kyle Sullivan will continue his stellar track career at the University of Wyoming in the fall. The Cowboys made official Sullivan’s decision last Thursday.

“It feels good knowing I’ll be wearing brown and gold next year,” Sullivan said of his choice.

PHS finishes as top 3A team

The Powell Panthers turned in a strong performance in less-than-ideal conditions on Friday as they placed third out of 11 teams at the Worland spring golf invitational. Panther Brian Morse tied for eighth place with an 18-hole total of 79.

“We had a very good day in conditions that, while typical of spring golf, were far from ideal,” said Powell coach Troy Hildebrand.

The Powell Panthers continued their early-season tour of Class 3A’s top five programs on Tuesday, losing a 5-1 decision to fifth-ranked Worland. The Panthers slide to 1-6 overall this season with the defeat.

Head coach Travis Rapp had hoped for a breakout game on Tuesday. Instead, the Panthers were behind almost from the outset.

Trappers have mountain to climb in the spring semester

Northwest College interim rodeo coach Dan Mortensen leads the Trappers into the start of their spring schedule when his squad travels to Montana State University. Competition in Bozeman opens today (Thursday).

“I think things have gone well,” said Mortensen, who took over following the mid-season resignation of Ryan Vander Pluym. “We have some good kids. They’ve been hitting it hard in practice for the last month. Everyone seems to be making progress, and that’s what I’m striving for.”

“This was a game we could have had,” said Panther girls’ soccer coach Brett Hanlin. “It was a game we could have won.”

Panther boys cruise to title at Worland

The second meet of the track season looked very much like the first. Powell’s boys destroyed the nine-school field, posting an almost 90-point margin of victory. The Panther girls placed second behind state power Cody.

Senior Kyle Sullivan led the way to the boys’ team title with three event wins for the Panthers. Sullivan cruised to victory in both the 110-meter hurdles and the 300-meter hurdles. He also captured the top spot in the high jump.
