Game and Fish sketches elk brucellosis control
A meeting Thursday updated the Wyoming Game and Fish Department’s efforts thus far to prevent the spread of brucellosis from the elk to cattle near Cody.
In 2004, Wyoming lost its brucellosis-free status when 31 reactor cattle were detected in a Sublette County herd. In 2010, brucellosis was discovered in cattle in the Meeteetse area.
Postage stamps up 1 cent this week
An additional penny for stamps will do little to aid the ailing U.S. Postal Service with a deficit in the billions of dollars, nor will it aid businesses striving to make a buck in a weak economy.
Effective Sunday, Jan. 22, first class stamps at the post office increased by 1 cent, bringing the cost to 45 cents per stamp.
Shoshone Municipal Pipeline 14-A pipeline project under way
The project to move an approximate 2.5 mile stretch of the Shoshone Municipal Pipeline parallel to the U.S. 14-A right-of-way will be completed this spring.
The 12,500 feet of pipe is being relocated to allow room for the Wyoming Department of Transportation to widen the highway.
“It’s out in the fields 20 or 30 feet,” said Shoshone Municipal Pipeline Manager Craig Barsness.

Christmas baskets
148 baskets distributed throughout community this year
From an observer’s point of view, the Christmas Basket Program giveaway seemed to go without a hitch on Friday, just two days before Christmas.
Dave Blevins, chairman of the Powell Council for Community Services, said there were 148 Christmas baskets this year. In 2010, there were 136.
If it takes a small army to haul all the free clothing to Sally’s Boutique that is run by Sally Montoya, then it must be close to a battalion helping to cart the Christmas baskets of food and new toys to the recipients’ cars.

North End Water Users voted in favor of the merger in March. Customers were lined up at University of Wyoming Powell Research and Extension Center to get the update and sign up for inclusion in Northwest’s system.
