Park County commissioners have at least temporarily stopped a plan to lower the starting wages of new deputies in the Park County Sheriff’s Office after Sheriff Scott Steward expressed concern the move would worsen turnover.

Jaime Solis, 46, of Ralston, was convicted by a 12-member jury on two counts of second-degree sexual assault on Tuesday, Aug. 30. The conviction was based in part on a secretly-taped conversation with the young woman he assaulted during an April 2010 massage.
A Cody orthopaedic surgeon is suing an Indiana woman over an anonymous mass mailing that disparaged him with false information. The lawsuit alleges she facilitated the December 2010 mailing. The woman says she doesn’t know what the suit is about.
Copies of the flyers, apparently intended to discredit Dr. Jimmie Biles of Yellowstone Sports Medicine, were sent to thousands of addresses across the Big Horn Basin in early December.
Updated, 6 p.m. Friday: A Powell man died Wednesday morning after a boat accident in the North Fork of the Shoshone River.
Park County Coroner Tim Power identified the victim on Friday as Earl Le Blanc, 77. Funeral services for Le Blanc have been scheduled for Monday, Aug. 29, at 2 p.m. at St. Barbara's Catholic Church in Powell.
