Girls runners-up at regionals

The Powell High School’s girls basketball team met its primary goal at the Class 3A West Regional Tournament — earning a trip to the state tournament — but couldn’t quite get a regional championship.

The Lady Panthers (17-8) beat Jackson 50-35 on Thursday and trumped Star Valley 35-23 on Friday before falling in the finals to tournament-host Mountain View.

With a pair of wins at the regional tournament, the Powell High School girls and boys basketball teams each earned tickets to this week's Class 3A State Tournament in Casper.

On Saturday, the Lady Panthers settled  for Class 3A West's No. 2 seed after a 31-19 loss to regional champion (and tournament host) Mountain View. The Panther boys earned a trip to state with a 60-56 overtime win against Jackson, then ended up with the West's No. 4 seed by falling to Star Valley on Saturday evening, 54-42.

For the time being, law enforcement officials plan to hold onto a plane and nearly $260,000 in cash seized by Cody police last week.

There’s little time for the Powell High School girls basketball team to savor Class 3A West’s best regular season record.

Less than five days after beating Cody to take the conference’s top spot, the PHS girls will begin their postseason with hopes of claiming the Class 3A West championship in Mountain View.

Suspicious plane leads to seizure

Cody police discover large amount of cash on pilot 

Citing suspicious behavior, Cody police seized what may be close to $260,000 in cash from a pair of men who flew into the area last week.
