Cardwell fled with stolen passport

When Paul Cardwell was caught in Thailand two months ago, one lingering question was how the former Powell Valley Healthcare CEO and fraud suspect made it overseas without his passport.

Barring any further budget cuts by the state of Wyoming, the Powell Circuit Court should remain open for at least the next couple years.

That’s despite the fact that state court administrators in Cheyenne continue to believe that consolidating the courts to one office in Cody would save money and be more efficient.

Paul Cardwell is back in Wyoming — and he’ll be staying for a while.

At a Monday hearing in Cheyenne, U.S. District Court Judge Nancy D. Freudenthal ordered the former Powell Valley Healthcare CEO and alleged confidence man to be kept in federal custody pending an Aug. 9 hearing.

A Powell man who used a sword in a November altercation with his roommate has been placed on probation.

Matthew J. Thull, 23, pleaded no contest to aggravated assault, a felony, as part of a plea deal with the Park County Attorney’s Office.

County moves forward on $3 million project

Park County has given itself two years to raise the money and build a new multi-purpose facility at the Park County Fairgrounds.

Last Tuesday, commissioners committed $1.6 million of county money and hope to couple it with money from the state and local donors to build a roughly $3 million multi-purpose center by the 2015 fair.

Pair is being sought on abuse charges

A Frannie man has dropped off the map while facing two felony charges of child abuse.

Michael Harvey is alleged to have punished a 6-year-old and a 3-year-old child by repeatedly shooting them with a BB gun. His also-missing girlfriend, Teresa Hart, faces two counts of aiding the abuse for allegedly encouraging him to shoot the children on April 27.
