$246,000 of $600,000 goal already raised

A drive is under way to raise $600,000 to fund a local economic development organization for three years through the Powell Economic Partnership Inc.

Now that it is in a larger building, the Powell Valley Recycling Center will begin taking all types of recyclable plastics — No. 1 through No. 7 — for the first time on Tuesday.

Until now, the center has accepted plastic types 1 and 2 only.

College commission changes how capital construction projects are prioritized

A proposed classroom building project for Northwest College moved up last week from No. 11 to No. 4 on a prioritized list of capital construction projects for Wyoming community colleges.

Program will prepare students to become commercial pilots

People whose thoughts and hearts dwell in the sky will have a chance to train for a degree in aeronautical science when Northwest College begins its new program next year.

A new aeronautics of science degree, expected to be offered at Northwest College for the first time next year, is a good example of the college partnering with an area business to meet industry needs — and, in this case, the traveling public as well.

Josh Wolfe donated a bicycle to another boy, then his own was stolen

Young Josh Wolfe of Powell saved his money for three years -- more than one fourth of his 11-year life -- toward one goal: buying his own bicycle.

"He's been saving up his money in his saving account for several years lawn mowing -- Christmas money, birthday money," said Carolee Neal, Josh's mother.

"It’s so much the same as home ... Making sure they have peace and security is extremely rewarding."

The weather in Iraq is cooling down a little these days, and Powell native Capt. Carl Danko is glad of that.

Berry Bryant would be 33 years old now. She likely would have a career and a family.

But her life, and her promising future, were cut short 15 years ago on Oct. 5, 1996, when Berry, then an 18-year-old freshman at Northwest College, was brutally raped and murdered north of Powell by another NWC student, Levi Collen of Ten Sleep.
