(Betty) Harness of Cody died in the early morning hours of Monday, Oct. 27 at West Park Long Term Care Center at the age of 98.She was born April 19, 1910, in Hardin, Mont., first child of John and Mary Schreuder. The family moved to Worden, Mont., where she grew up and attended school. Betty married Owen Harness in 1934 at Rawlins.They lived at Lance Creek where her husband worked for Marathon Oil Company. In 1959, they were transferred to Cody. Owen died in 1961.Betty worked as a news correspondent for the Casper Star Tribune and as feature writer for several magazines, doing human interest stories and historical articles. After her writing career, she worked during the summer months at the Buffalo Bill Historical Center for 15 years. Her hobbies included painting, sewing and gardening.Survivors incude a sister, Joanne Zent, and a brother, John Schreuder, both of Billings, Mont.; her niece, Judy Rhoads of Cody; and various other nieces and nephews outside of Wyoming.She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Everett Schreuder and Jake Schreuder; and four sisters, Anna Schreuder, Mary Brewer, Elsie Heidema and Frances Offt Johnston.Graveside services will be Saturday, Nov. 1 at 10 a.m. at Riverside Cemetery, Cody.
