Ski Patrol offering tryouts this weekend

Posted

Hope is to double volunteer numbersThe North Absaroka Ski Patrol is looking for volunteers who may be interested in joining their ranks and serving Sleeping Giant. Individuals are invited to a two-day tryout this Saturday and Sunday. “Ideally, we'd like to have about 30 members,” said Troy Broussard, one of the organizers for the tryout. “Right now, we're at about half of what we want.”

The tryout session runs from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. both days. During that time, participants will be able to observe current ski patrol members as they go about their duties.

“It is a two-way street,” Broussard notes. “They get to see, from an actual ski patrol member, just what it entails and the sorts of things we do on a routine basis. At the same time, we get a feel for their personality and have a chance to see if they've got the correct makeup for the position.”

In addition to shadowing ski patrol members, tryout participants will take a basic ski ability test and meet with the patrol director to learn the additional steps required to become a Sleeping Giant ski patroller.

“There's a lot of training involved,” Broussard admits. “But it can be a very enjoyable and rewarding experience for those that pursue it.”
