State baseball postponed

1st round game moved to tonight; 7 pioneers on all-district teams  

The first round of the 2014 American Legion Single A State Baseball Tournament was postponed until today (Thursday) due to rainy weather in Laramie.

The Powell Pioneers will begin their bid for a state title today at 7 p.m. against the host Laramie Rangers. The game was originally scheduled for 7 p.m. Wednesday.

NEW ORLEANS — The University of Wyoming men’s and women’s track and field teams continued a successful 2013-14 season last week, as both were named as United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) All-Academic teams. Seven Wyoming student-athletes also earned individual All-Academic honors from the organization.

KANSAS CITY — Two members of the 2013-14 University of Wyoming basketball team, Jack Bentz and Aaron Tyser, have been named to the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) Honors Court for their work in the classroom during last season.

A community remembers

Hundreds gather to honor late teacher, coach, husband and father 

On a hot July morning best suited for the first two-a-day practices, Powell Panther football players, coaches and hundreds of their friends and family filled Panther Stadium to honor the late Jim Stringer.

Thursday’s hour-long memorial service featured emotional speeches by Stringer’s children, fellow coaches and friends.

Stringer’s family sat at field level, as did dozens of current and former Panther players and coaches. The home side’s bleachers overflowed with people who came from near and far to pay their respects to the teacher, coach, father and husband.

Pioneers qualify for state

Powell grabs North’s 2 seed, opens against host Laramie Wednesday 

The road was rocky, but the Powell Pioneers’ 2014 season will end at the state tournament in Laramie.

Powell earned the No. 2 seed after a 2-1 showing at the North District Tournament in Cody over the weekend and will open state against the South’s No. 3 Laramie Rangers at 7 p.m. Wednesday.

Memories of a forgettable regular season can be replaced with postseason triumphs beginning today (Thursday) in Cody.

The Powell Pioneers will enter the Single A North District Tournament at 4 p.m. today hoping to prove worthy of a state tournament berth despite a 16-26 overall record.

Powell rider to shoot film in South America  

Ryan Berchtold is truly heading south for the winter.

A professional snowmobiler from Powell, Berchtold will leave for Chile on Sunday for five weeks of riding and filming.
