Late rally falls just short

Forced into a winner-takes-all title game by a late Cody rally on Saturday, the Powell Babe Ruth 13-year-old all-stars tried to muster a similar formula for success Monday. Powell’s efforts to battle back from a nine-run hole fell just short though as Cody took an 11-9 win in the title game.

Saturday’s scheduled championship game in the 13-year-old division Babe Ruth district tournament was pushed to Monday following a lengthy day of baseball for the team from Cody. Powell and Cody were scheduled to play for the district title on Monday night in Powell.

The Powell Little League Majors All-Stars finished fourth over the weekend. The Powell Majors split their pool play games, defeating Sheridan B by a 15-11 final count and falling to tournament co-host Cody by a 12-2 final score.

It wasn’t pretty at times, but the Powell Pioneers clinched the Northwest conference title on Tuesday night with an 18-15, 16-13 doubleheader sweep. Offense ruled the evening as the wind and a short outfield fence spelled doom for fans of pitching duels.
