College rodeo season resumes after an extended winter break as the Northwest College Trappers return to the arena this weekend at Montana State University in Bozeman, Mont., for a pair of events. For teams in the hunt for a qualification spot to the College National Finals Rodeo, this could be a make-or-break weekend.

The Powell Pioneers have announced their 2013 American Legion baseball schedule. While some dates on the calendar are still subject to change, the team will once again begin play in early May with its goal to still be playing ball in August come the state and Northwest regional tournaments.

The Northwest College soccer programs will be sending at least a trio of student-athletes on to compete at Division I schools following a series of letter of intent signings at the college. Second-team All American Dean Johnson, All-American and school scoring leader Samhia Simao and 2011 Region IX freshman of the year Haley Ahrenholtz will all be playing Division I ball come next fall.

Late first-half surge sends Powell to 6-0 loss Tuesday
Fourth-ranked Worland scored three goals in a 2:30 stretch of the late first half to transform what appeared to be an evenly-matched soccer game into a 6-0 blowout. The loss dropped the Panthers to 2-4 overall and an 0-1 beginning to Northwest quadrant play.

Powell’s game on Saturday with Pinedale was barely 20 minutes old when head coach Travis Rapp made an observation.
“I turned to my assistant coach and said we needed to work on finishing this week in practice,” Rapp recalled.
