Join the Celebration
There is no understating the importance of the Garland Canal
to Powell. Its waters and some incredibly hard
work by determined homesteaders helped transform this once-arid desert into
a lush and fertile plain.
It is a story worth remembering, filled with intrigue, sacrifice and bravery.
Many of the homesteaders came
here with little more than the clothes on their backs.
I hope today’s special edition reflects this great
and noble endeavor. Spend a little time digesting the stories
and photographs from then and now. You will find yourself with a new appreciation
for the rich history of
Powell.
I also encourage you to attend the centennial celebration that starts Friday.
A lot of folks have worked very
hard for months behind the scenes to make it a success.
Irrigation water is our lifeblood. It’s also a life story for many in Powell and across the Basin.
